SR 44 Crossing of CSX Railroad (Sumter County)

Project Overview:

FDOT is building railroad overpasses in Alachua, Marion and Sumter counties by a target date of 2009, when increased freight traffic from CSX will be diverted from the Orlando area. Sumter County is in line for an overpass at the SR 44 crossing near Wildwood, as well as an expansion to four lanes of the existing two-lane overpass at U.S. 301. Additionally, improvements to other parts of the rail system, such as signals and passing area, will be enacted

Lake Hancock Lake Level Modification Project

Project Overview:

This project involves the raising the level of Lake Hancock from 98.7 feet to 100.5 feet. The proposed normal operating level of 100.5 feet was determined to be the approximate historical level of the lake before the area was mined for phosphate and the natural lake outlet deepened.
